Overview — Commercial in Blenheim
A Blenheim winery undertook a major development of their cellar door and function venue, creating a purpose-built hospitality facility for wine tourism. The project required complete plumbing installation for a commercial kitchen, two public bathroom facilities, staff amenities, and a high-capacity hot water system capable of meeting peak hospitality demand.
The Challenge
Commercial kitchen plumbing has significant compliance requirements — grease traps, specific drainage falls, stainless steel equipment connections, and hot and cold water pressure balanced for professional equipment. The site's connection to the public water main also required a new service connection with appropriate backflow prevention. The project timeline was driven by the winery's spring tourism season, creating a fixed deadline.
Our Solution
We worked with the architect and project manager from design stage to ensure the plumbing design met all commercial kitchen and hospitality compliance requirements. A commercial-grade grease trap was installed for the kitchen drainage, and the bathroom facilities were designed for high-visitor-volume use with robust fixtures from commercial ranges. A Rheem commercial storage system was specified for the hot water supply, sized to handle peak event use. The project was completed two weeks before the season opening.
The Outcome
The cellar door opened on schedule and has operated successfully through multiple busy seasons. The hot water system has handled peak event loads without issue, and the commercial kitchen plumbing has received positive feedback from the winery's hospitality team. We continue to provide annual servicing for the facility.
